Day 67 — After the Line Breaks

Wednesday, 17th June 2026

This morning Carlton looked deceptively civilised. Drizzle hung in the plane trees along Lygon Street, the tram bells came through the wet air with that patient metallic note they have, and people queued for coffee as if the city were not, elsewhere and underneath, conducting another of its small relentless wars. A damp newspaper collapsed on the next table while I read the overnight figures. By then the shape of the thing was already clear: not a battle, exactly, but a dismantling.

For [RUST], the 17th was the worst day yet in this young campaign. Eleven phones lost, no captures, no counterstroke, and another collapse in the standings — down 38 places to #138. Holdings have been cut to three. The cell now has no triangles and no territory worth naming, only isolated positions and the memory of a front that existed a few days ago. The title of yesterday’s despatch — central positions overrun — now reads less like description than prelude.

Once again, all of it happened to 🚢RustPanther, because once again 🚢RustPanther was effectively the whole line. They ended the day still holding all three remaining [RUST] phones, but they also absorbed all eleven losses: six in Carlton, four in the central city, one in Fitzroy North. 🎶RustShark, 💓RustHornet, and 🦝RustCoyote did not enter the theatre. There is courage in showing up alone; there is also arithmetic, and the arithmetic is unforgiving.

The northern front was where the real damage was done. Carlton saw 19 steals in total, and 🏧TurboComet was the clear author of the day’s violence there, posting 18 steals overall and six directly against [RUST]. That is not opportunism. That is a deliberate clearing action. Carlton, with its student flats, church spires, and broad institutional streets, has lately become bad country for exposed holdings, and 🏧TurboComet worked it with the efficiency of someone who knew exactly where the line was thin. In Fitzroy North they added another theft against [RUST], alongside six steals overall in that suburb, extending the pressure northeast and ensuring there would be no easy regrouping.

In the centre, the fighting was broader and more chaotic, as it usually is. Melbourne proper recorded 105 steals, with the usual savage churn around Bourke, Queen, and Elizabeth Streets. ☎️Phone #7943, ☎️Phone #12005, ☎️Phone #10369, and ☎️Phone #11774 all changed hands three times — less a contest of possession than a public demonstration that nobody holds the CBD for long. Against that backdrop, 😌JadeRadar took two more phones from [RUST], while 🤨NanoBlade and 🙎‍♀️GrimFang each took one. 😌JadeRadar, who led the previous day’s incursion, seems to have settled into a pattern: not dominant across the whole theatre, but persistent where [RUST] is weakest. 🤨NanoBlade, by contrast, moved like heavy traffic through the centre — 38 steals, one capture, 14 losses — part raider, part participant in the city’s endless attritional grind.

Elsewhere the theatre kept burning. Preston Market’s ☎️Phone #13280 changed hands four times, a small savage fight in the damp around The Centreway. But that was background noise to [RUST]’s problem, which is no longer simply loss of ground. It is loss of mass.

Even the named cells barely touched this story. [GAYS], through 🛤️LiveMantis, made modest gains in the centre; [SQWA] receded further into irrelevance. Neither mattered as much as the independent operators who found [RUST]’s exposed positions and took them.

STRATEGIC OUTLOOK

This was not a setback. It was a break in the line. A cell that entered the war in April with energy and a little audacity is now down to three phones, all carried by one operative. If 🚢RustPanther stands down, [RUST] effectively vanishes from the Victorian theatre. If they remain alone, the pressure will continue until those last positions are tested in turn.

There is still a difference between being beaten and being erased. But tonight that difference rests on three phones and one operator.
